We are excited to be growing some of the plants for a long border at the upcoming RHS show at Wentworth Woodhouse (16th-20th July)
We’re thrilled to announce that the Wortley Hall Walled Garden Growers volunteers are playing a role in this year’s RHS show at Wentworth Woodhouse. Our dedicated volunteer growers are thrilled to have been asked by landscape designers Sam Penrose and Jo Jo Tarbet to provide the plants for a unique installation that’s set to turn heads. The long border garden will be an imaginative “edimental” garden that blends the ornamental with the edible. The garden will be planted in a local primary school once the RHS show is over, providing a hands-on learning environment for the children to discover the joys and rewards of growing their own fruit and veg.

The Edimental Garden
Designed by Sam Penrose and Jojo Tarvet in association with Sheffield-based social enterprise @discovery_outdoors_sheffield , the border nurtures connection to the food growing process, whilst challenging the aesthetics of what an edible bed should look like, encouraging hands-on education and exploratory interest for school children.
Planting Plan

Sam and JoJo’s design is a celebration of sustainable growing, showcasing a garden where beauty and productivity live side by side. The concept invites visitors to explore how ornamental plants and edible crops can be interwoven to create a stunning and functional space. We’re proud that our lovingly cultivated plants will help bring his vision to life, offering colour, flavour, and texture to this vibrant garden feature.
Our Collaboration
This collaboration highlights the power of community growing and our commitment to nurturing not just plants, but people and ideas. Our volunteer team has been working to raise and care for the plants which the designers specially selected for their visual impact and culinary value. The partnership is a testament to what can be achieved when passionate growers and visionary designers come together.
Where to see the Edimental garden
